Starling Cousley is the Managing Partner for Rise of the Rest’s Real Estate Initiative.

Prior to joining the team, Starling was a Managing Director and Fund Manager with Hines, where he helped oversee a variety of value-add and core-plus investment initiatives, including serving as a member of the U.S. Value Added Funds management team. Before Hines, Starling was a Vice President and Fund Manager with Parkway Properties, Inc., where he focused on acquiring office properties located in the Southeast U.S.

Starling is a CFA charterholder and a Certified Public Accountant (inactive). He received his MBA from Harvard Business School and a Master’s of Accountancy and Bachelor’s of Accountancy from the University of Mississippi.

  1. Something you admire about entrepreneurs. “Brave enough to try, humble enough to fail, determined enough to try again.”
  2. What was your first job? “I worked at the Ole Miss Law School library, swapping pages in loose-leaf binders – and realizing very quickly that I didn’t want to be a lawyer.”
  3. An idea you wish you had come up with? “Tableside guac – it just tastes better.”
  4. Road trip destination on your bucket list? “Anywhere I can go with my family that has no cell service and no Wi-Fi.”
  5. What was your AOL screen name? “True confession: I never had AOL. But, if I did… I would have been HottyToddy_DialUp”
